About Us

Salem URC in Burley in Wharfedale is part of the United Reformed Church.

We’re a small church in terms of the size of our building, but we are a big church in our approach to to our faith and community.  We meet on a Saturday evening, Sunday morning or sometimes both for our regular worship services which most would say are of a traditional style.  We’ll let you decide whether that description fits when you visit us.

We meet regularly for social events like our coffee mornings, quiz and movie nights.  We are trying other activities like poetry and opera nights too.  All of them are open to all and are great fun.  Come and join us for any that appeal to you.  You’ll find we’re very friendly and welcoming.  All our events can be found on our events page.

The United Reformed Church is a Christian denomination with roots in the Reformation dating back to the 17th century. The church is based on its belief in respecting a person’s belief and the conviction that the majority is not always correct or right.  This means that the church is based on a variety of opinions and perceptions held by its congregation and not the usual norms of the society.
